Crippling Campus Construction

Oakland University Spent the last academic year renovating the Oakland Center, creating more study space and amenities for students. As the old saying goes: no good deed goes unpunished. Although the students are not necessarily punishing the construction workers, they are, however, wondering why it has taken so long to finalize the project.

Wednesday afternoon, Sydnee, Laurel and I approached fellow University students that were congregating around Kresge Library, Dodge Hall, and the Math Science Center to hear their opinions about just how much the road construction and Oakland Center renovation has affected their school days. The color markers of Green indicate the students that are mostly unaffected by the construction because they live off campus. The Yellow markers are indications that the students are somewhat frustrated by the construction, but are largely in support of the renovations in the Oakland Center. The Red markers then, represent the students that have had to make major alterations to their school day in order to accommodate for the construction and renovation. This includes changing their morning alarms in order to leave their homes earlier. Mainly, students mentioned that they had to walk different routes in order to navigate around the construction. These new routes are are often longer and make it more challenging to get to class on time.
